Promeal’s #FeedAPet campaign feeds 50 000 pets
There are hundreds of animal shelters that struggle with the demand of housing and feeding abandoned pets. To help lend a paw, Promeal initiated the #FeedAPet campaign. The campaign kicked off last year in all grocery stores nationwide, with the aim of raising enough support to donate up to 50 000 cans of pet food.
For every can of either BOSS or Petley’s tinned food that was bought, Promeal (manufacturer of both BOSS and Petley’s) donated 1 can to charity. Pet lovers were also encouraged to vote for their favourite charity and share pictures of their pets on Facebook, and for every picture of a pet shared on Facebook through their #FeedAPet portal and website, Promeal donated a can to charity
Close to 100 charities were nominated and from the top ten most voted-for charities, Benoni based Pug Rescue SA and Krugersdorp based Husky Rescue SA were randomly selected as the recipients of the final donations. Both charities rehabilitate, rehome and offer sanctuary to hundreds of dogs with nowhere else to go.
This is not the first time Promeal has initiated an activation to help the local community. Realising the need for kennels in Atlantis (the home of Promeal), the team decided that in celebration of Mandela Day last year, BOSS dog food and The Dog Box Project would create 67 kennels in 67 minutes with 67 teams.
Knowing that what they were contributing to would better the welfare of animals and make a real difference to the people in the community, the kennels were distributed to 67 pet owners along with a bag of BOSS dog food and a blanket to keep man’s best friend warm throughout the Cape Winter - therefore ensuring the welfare of dogs.
And more recently, Promeal donated 269 cases of dog and cat food to the George SPCA and they Knysna SPCA to assist animals who were impacted by the devastating fires that swept through the Garden Route.
Promeal MD Tania Morgan-Weyer comments, “Giving back to the pet community is a Promeal Value and falls into our wider #TakeTheLead philosophy, which encompasses focusing our energy and resources on community needs and programs. Promeal is proud to have reached the 50 000 cans target through the #FeedAPet campaign, as well as the other initiatives, that we as a team feel so strongly about. Making a difference in the lives of rescue dogs and dogs in need by keeping their tummies happy could not have been achieved without the help of Promeal customers, who are animal lovers at heart.”
